Why a Bison and a Scuba Diver?
Our logo tells a story about who we are, what we value, and why we do this work differently.
People often ask about our logo. A bison and a scuba diver? In red, white, and blue? It's an unusual combination β and that's exactly the point.
You'll notice we don't use green. In a world drowning in greenwashing β where every corporation slaps an eco-label on products that are anything but sustainable β we wanted to be different. We're not green for the sake of green. We're keeping it real.
πΊπΈ Patriotism as Stewardship
We use American flag colors not as a political statement, but as an expression of gratitude. Gratitude for this land. Gratitude for the oceans we're blessed to explore. Gratitude for the opportunity to do something meaningful with the resources we've been given.
To us, patriotism isn't about waving a flag β it's about stewarding what we have. Caring for the soil. Protecting the water. Preserving the green spaces that define our communities.
A broken country that hasn't properly stewarded its own land cannot teach or bless other countries. Just as a poor person cannot provide employment to another poor person, we must heal ourselves first β then we can help others.
That's our long-term vision: demonstrate regenerative stewardship here in the United States, prove what's possible, and then share what we've learned with the world. The red, white, and blue remind us where that work begins.
𦬠America's Original Regenerative Herd
Before European settlement, 30-60 million bison roamed North America. Their movement across the plains β grazing intensively, fertilizing heavily, then moving on β built the deep, rich soils that made America's heartland the most productive farmland on Earth.
They were the original regenerative grazers.
By 1889, fewer than 1,000 remained. An entire ecosystem, nearly erased. But here's what gives us hope: bison are coming back. Conservation efforts have brought their numbers to over 500,000. The land remembers. The land can heal.
The bison in our logo represents both what was lost and what can be restored. We plan to run bison on multiple DIN properties β starting with our SLR Ranch in Idaho. And we're attempting something that's never been done commercially: integrating bison with sheep and goats in a multi-species rotation. If we can prove it works, it tells an amazing story about what's possible when we work with nature instead of against it.
π€Ώ Stewardship Runs Deep
Our founder is an avid scuba diver, and there's something about being underwater that changes how you see the world. You're a visitor in an ecosystem that doesn't need you β and yet, when you witness a reef teeming with life, you can't help but want to keep it beautiful.
It's not guilt. It's not obligation. It's a genuine desire to steward every opportunity we're given β whether that's 60 acres in Utah or a coral reef in the South Pacific.
By far, the favorite dive site is Fiji β a trip every two years to experience the people, the culture, and some of the most incredible underwater wildlife on Earth. (Including what might be the greatest shark dive anywhere.) In 2024, father and daughter worked together on an artificial reef restoration project there β a small way to give back to waters that have given so much wonder.
Fun fact: Our son-in-law had to agree to become a certified scuba diver to join the family. That's how seriously we take this. The whole family dives β and that's how "Dive Into Nature" got its name.
DIN has big plans to expand into ocean conservation someday. For now, we take every opportunity as divers to care, respect, and protect. The scuba diver in our logo represents curiosity, wonder, and the understanding that stewardship doesn't stop at the water's edge.
β¨ Putting It All Together
A bison, a diver, and the American flag. It's not a combination you'd expect β and that's what makes it ours.
We're not a typical land trust. We're not a typical farm. We're a nonprofit building regenerative sanctuaries in the heart of American communities, bringing together the wisdom of natural systems, the wonder of exploration, and deep gratitude for the land and water we've been given.
Every time you see our logo, we hope you'll remember: this work is about more than saving green spaces. It's about restoring our connection to the land, the water, and each other β and keeping it real while we do it.
